Gathering the Future

With deliberate wingbeats, the Grey Heron carries more than a simple twig. Clutched carefully in its dagger-like bill is the foundation of a nest – one piece in a structure that will cradle the next generation.

High in trees or reedbeds, herons build large stick platforms, adding to them year after year. Each flight is purposeful, each branch selected and transported with precision.

The bright eye remains fixed ahead. Even burdened, the bird moves with quiet authority – architect, hunter, and parent in one.
