The River’s Sentinel

Bathed in golden morning light, the great cormorant stretches its wings in a ritual as ancient as time. These glossy-black fishers are unmatched divers, propelling themselves with powerful strokes to chase prey beneath the surface. But unlike most birds, their feathers aren’t fully waterproof — a quirk that leads to this dramatic pose: wings outstretched, drying in the sun.
